The Belleville washer form features angled teeth to create an optimum and simultaneous friction-fit and form-fit connection.
It makes sense in many cases—primarily when using short screws and loads which are vertical to the screw axis—to prevent the connection loosening by using lock washers to supplement the pre-tensioning force.
